Like many American kids of the 1980s, I was used to letting myself into an empty house after school and waiting a few hours for my parents to come home from work. Spending those afternoons by myself watching television became an everyday ritual.

I didn’t feel like I was spending those afternoons alone, though. I was enraptured with a new cartoon, The Transformers, featuring amazing robots that turned into vehicles, weapons – even dinosaurs! The comforting, almost fatherly voice of Optimus Prime was there too, leading the Autobots with compassion, and strength to match. Another favorite of mine was Ironhide, with his characteristic, exaggerated drawl and bluster. It wasn’t until years after childhood that I discovered the same voice actor was responsible for the unforgettable voices of both characters: Peter Cullen.

Years later, I had a chance to meet Peter. I shouldn’t have been surprised by his approachable and humble nature, but that’s how he was in the short time we spent together: grateful to the fans for remembering his work, and genuinely touched by what the characters he breathed life into meant to them.

His recent passing broke the hearts of fans across generations and brought many of us together to talk about what Peter and his work had meant to us. It also led some fans to rediscover another part of that legacy: Peter had given Ironhide his instantly recognizable voice, alongside his far more widely recognized work as Optimus Prime.

OW9 Stratagem Ironhide's Armory // Ironhide

That connection is why we selected the Org Wave 9 stratagem Ironhide’s Armory as Peter’s memorial card in War|Void. It celebrates his role in giving life to two treasured characters in the Transformers mythos.

We worked with our good friend Sid VenBlu on the artwork for Ironhide’s Armory, and she captured the connection between Ironhide and Optimus with touching detail.

This "Hot Gun" deck is a standard of War|Void testing, and will delight Ironhide players.

For players who want to put Ironhide’s Armory on the table, we’re also sharing one of the familiar, well-worn decks from War|Void testing: “Hot Gun.”

Static Laser of Ironhide offers a generous +3 Attack, with its familiar self-damage drawback when wielded by characters other than Ironhide. Ironhide’s Armory gets one into your hand before the game begins, then gives you opportunities after battle to trade for a Static Laser of Ironhide you’ve flipped. The result is a longer-lasting onslaught built around one of Ironhide’s signature cards. This is alongside all of the benefits of using the Static Laser with characters that get stronger the more damage counters they have, like Ransack and Allicon Aronik.

This deck (as well as other decks featured in Cards of the Week) can also be played immediately via the transformerstcg.org table for Tabletop Simulator.

We’ll be back next week with a new Card.
