transformerstcg.org is a community organization continuing the Transformers Trading Card Game through new cards, organized play, current rules, online resources, and support for new and returning players.

What is the Transformers Trading Card Game?

The Transformers Trading Card Game, often shortened to Transformers TCG, is a customizable card game originally published by Wizards of the Coast from 2018 to 2020.

Players build teams of characters and a deck of battle cards representing various Actions and Upgrades. Characters can flip between modes during play, with each mode often offering different abilities and stats. See How to Play for the basics.

Five official Waves were released before commercial development ended in 2020. Since then, transformerstcg.org and its predecessor teams have continued the game with new community releases, updated rules, organized play, and additional ways to play online and in person.

What is transformerstcg.org?

transformerstcg.org is a community non-profit organization continuing the Transformers Trading Card Game.

Our team develops new physical and downloadable cards, maintains community releases, organizes online and in-person play, supports multiple formats, and creates resources for new and returning players.

Is transformerstcg.org the official Transformers TCG?

No. transformerstcg.org is not an official Hasbro or Wizards of the Coast product.

Wizards of the Coast published the original Transformers Trading Card Game for Hasbro from 2018 until official development ended in 2020.

transformerstcg.org continues the game independently through community releases, organized play, rules support, convention appearances, starter decks, promotional cards, and other resources.

TRANSFORMERS and related character names and marks are trademarks of Hasbro. transformerstcg.org is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Hasbro or Wizards of the Coast.

I heard the Transformers Trading Card Game was canceled. Is it back?

Yes and no.

The official Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast game remains discontinued. Wave 5: Titan Masters Attack was the final official Wave.

The game is active as a community-supported TCG. Players continue to organize events, develop cards and formats, refine the rules, and produce downloadable and professionally printed community releases.

What do “official,” “community,” and “fan” mean on transformerstcg.org?

These terms identify who created or currently maintains a card, rule, release, format, or other game resource.

Official refers to content published by Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast during the commercial life of the game.
Community refers to content published or maintained by transformerstcg.org and its predecessor teams.
Fan refers to unofficial content created by individuals or groups outside transformerstcg.org.

A fan release does not become transformerstcg.org community content merely because it is preserved on our Tabletop Simulator table or permitted in casual play. It must be formally adopted, published, or maintained by the organization.

Who were Turbo Revving Old Punks and Team Bayformers?

Turbo Revving Old Punks, or TROP, and Team Bayformers were community design groups that created new Transformers TCG releases after official development ended.

TROP was based primarily in the United Kingdom. Its 2021 releases Phase One and Monster Menagerie were later combined as Org Wave 7: Monster Menagerie.

Team Bayformers was formed primarily by competitive players from the San Francisco Bay Area. It created Wave 6: World|Strike and Wave 8: Waste|Lands.

transformerstcg.org is the organizational descendant and inheritor of Team Bayformers. It also receives advice and historical guidance from former TROP members.

What is the status of Allied Crossplay?

Allied Crossplay is no longer active.

It was the name eventually adopted by a community partnership that began between The Ark and Team Bayformers in late 2020. Over time, the partnership grew to include other community groups, including Turbo Revving Old Punks and teletraan1.net.

Allied Crossplay came to an end in December 2023, when Team Bayformers left to form transformerstcg.org.

Who owns Wave 6: World|Strike and Wave 8: Waste|Lands?

No community organization owns the Transformers brand or the intellectual property of the original Transformers Trading Card Game. Those rights remain with Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast.

However, World|Strike and Waste|Lands were created, financed, developed, and originally published by Team Bayformers.

As Team Bayformers’ direct organizational successor, transformerstcg.org maintains and publishes the authoritative transformerstcg.org versions of both releases.

Other groups may use independently modified versions in their own databases, formats, or events. Those adaptations are not revisions authorized or maintained by transformerstcg.org.

Transformers Deck-Building Game

Is this the same as the Transformers Deck-Building Game?

No. The Transformers Deck-Building Game, published by Renegade Game Studios beginning in 2023, is a different game from the Transformers Trading Card Game. It uses its own cards, rules, and publisher, and the two games are not compatible: cards from one cannot be used in the other, and nothing on this site applies to Deck-Building Game play.

transformerstcg.org has no relationship with Renegade Game Studios or the Deck-Building Game, and does not publish rules, rulings, releases, or organized play for it. Many players in this community enjoy both games.

The Deck-Building Game remains in print. Its most recent release, Chaos Unleashed, arrived in June 2024.

How is transformerstcg.org different from transformers.cards?

transformerstcg.org is an independent community organization supporting the continuing Transformers Trading Card Game through new releases, organized play, current rules, free downloads, physical cards, online play, and long-term game stewardship. transformers.cards and the associated “Transformers TCG Community” Discord are separate fan projects with their own leadership, formats, rulings, card implementations, and development priorities.

transformerstcg.org maintains the Team Bayformers release lineage, including the authoritative community versions of World|Strike and Waste|Lands, and develops its own releases, organized play, rules resources, downloads, Tabletop Simulator environment, and Discord community. Our approach emphasizes broad format support, sustained public playtesting, wider community participation, and long-term stewardship of the game.

New and returning players are a priority for transformerstcg.org. We aim to make the game easier to discover, learn, and rejoin through accessible rules resources, beginner-friendly play, free cards, multiple supported formats, and events that welcome players across different experience and competitive levels.

transformers.cards supports its own formats and has made independent changes to some community cards and rulings. Because of this, card text, legality, rules interpretations, and supported formats may differ between transformerstcg.org play and the versions used by those fan projects.

Cards and Releases

Where can I get printed Transformers TCG community cards?

transformerstcg.org distributes printed community cards through:

the Donation Storefront;
in-person events;
promotional giveaways;
online event rewards.

Donations help cover production, packaging, shipping, event support, and artist commissions.

Because we print in larger quantities, obtaining cards through transformerstcg.org will usually cost less than placing a small custom order with an independent printing service.

Can I download transformerstcg.org cards for free?

Yes. Free print-and-play files for transformerstcg.org releases are available from download.transformerstcg.org.

This includes cards that may also be offered in printed form through the Donation Storefront or at events. Donating for printed cards is optional and is not required to access or play with our releases.

Players may also submit the downloadable files to independent services such as MakePlayingCards, BoardGamesMaker, or Not MPC.

Where can I buy official Wizards of the Coast cards?

The original Transformers TCG is out of print, but official-era cards and sealed products remain available through some retailers and secondary-market sellers.

At some TFcon events, transformerstcg.org also distributes free starter decks containing official cards and may offer original booster packs while supplies last.

What sleeves and toploaders fit Transformers TCG cards?

The game uses three card sizes, and each takes different protection. Downloads has the exact dimensions.

Battle cards, stratagems, and small character cards are the same size as most other trading card games, so any standard sleeve, toploader, or binder page fits.

Standard character cards are oversized and need dedicated protection. Precise-fit inner sleeves are available for double-sleeving, and both Ultra Pro and BCW make outer sleeves and toploaders at this size. The two brands are not interchangeable, so pick one and stay with it: BCW toploaders fit BCW four-pocket binder pages, while Ultra Pro outer sleeves fit Ultra Pro toploaders but not BCW ones. If you want your character cards in binder pages, check the page and toploader are from the same maker before buying either.

Titan-sized character cards are larger again. Oversized inner sleeves and toploaders exist at roughly this size, though the fit tends to be loose.

Product lines change, so confirm current dimensions with the manufacturer before ordering in quantity.

How do I protect folding character cards?

Folding character cards don’t sit flat in a toploader with both halves exposed. The usual approach is to cover the inactive half with an empty sleeve or a piece of card stock trimmed to size, so the toploader holds a single readable face. Custom sliders that cover the inactive half are also available from independent makers.

The folding gimmick itself is durable. These cards are two cards joined by a heavy vinyl hinge rather than a scored or creased single card, and they tolerate normal, even heavy, use.

What box holds both character cards and battle cards?

Because the two sizes differ so much, most standard deck boxes hold one or the other. Storage boxes designed for oversized cards alongside standard ones will hold a full team and deck together; BCW’s Prime line is the option community players most often recommend, and larger versions exist for full collections.

What Waves are available for the Transformers Trading Card Game?

Wizards of the Coast published five numbered Waves:

The official era also included starter sets, convention packs, the Metroplex and Devastator decks, and the Blaster VS Soundwave sets.

The community era added:

transformerstcg.org also publishes Goodies Starter Decks, Jumpstarter update boosters, Versus Sets, convention packs, and promotional cards.

What is the current transformerstcg.org release?

The current main release is Org Wave 9: War|Void, which is in Public Beta.

What is Org Wave 7: Monster Menagerie?

Org Wave 7: Monster Menagerie is the seventh numbered Wave recognized by transformerstcg.org and the second major release of the community era.

It originated as two 2021 releases by Turbo Revving Old Punks:

Phase One, containing battle cards and stratagems;
Monster Menagerie, containing character cards.

The releases were later combined as Org Wave 7. transformerstcg.org adopted the established release and published a remastered edition with the support of former TROP members.

Why does the Jumpstarter Update Booster exist?

The Jumpstarter Update Booster gathers replacement cards and other targeted updates into one accessible supplemental release.

Replacement cards were historically spread across multiple community Waves. Jumpstarter gives new and returning players a single place to find the current successors to older cards that were banned or replaced.

Current Jumpstarter files are available through the download site and may also be ordered via the Donation Storefront.

Design and Community Standards

What is the Wave 4+ balance ideal?

Wave 4+ is the balance philosophy used by transformerstcg.org for card design, legality, and long-term development.

It treats the diverse post-Wave 4 metagame (not the severe power increase caused by a small number of Wave 5 cards) as the preferred foundation for continued play.

Wave 4+ preserves most of Wave 5 while banning or replacing the relatively few outliers that narrowed competition.

New cards should:

create additional viable strategies;
preserve meaningful counterplay;
avoid invalidating large portions of the existing card pool;
limit mandatory cards and automatic inclusions;
avoid forcing continual power escalation.

Wave 4+ does not mean that new cards must be weak. Strong cards should broaden the game rather than force the rest of it to escalate around them.

What is the Certified Community Release program?

Main article: Certified Community Release Program

The Certified Community Release program marks community releases that meet published standards for sustained public playtesting, competitively independent design, broad balance, responsible artwork, production quality, Wave 4+ balance, and long-term stewardship. Certification means the release and its development process meet those standards; it does not promise perfection or universal appeal.

The forthcoming Org Wave 9 Versus Set, Marvelous Heroes VS Rising Villains, is planned to be the first Certified Community Release.

Why doesn’t transformerstcg.org accept unsolicited card ideas?

transformerstcg.org does not accept unsolicited card concepts, mechanics, names, card text, or other design submissions.

This keeps the origin, ownership, and credit history of our designs clear and reduces the risk of later disputes when an independently developed card resembles a submitted idea.

Unsolicited ideas sent through email, direct messages, Discord, or other contact methods may be deleted without review.

The normal starting point for deeper contribution is public Beta Testing. Experienced and established contributors may later be invited into controlled design discussions, but testing does not guarantee design-team access.

Why doesn’t transformerstcg.org make cards for Transformers crossover characters?

Transformers collaborations often incorporate characters, names, designs, and other intellectual property owned by companies other than Hasbro. The permissions available to Transformers fan projects do not give us permission to use those third-party properties.

The Hasbro Fan Policy gives projects like ours considerable freedom to work with Transformers material, and we do not want to create unnecessary legal exposure by directly using intellectual property belonging to Hasbro’s collaboration partners. For that reason, transformerstcg.org does not directly adapt Transformers crossover characters such as Ectotron or Gigawatt into the community TCG.

In cases such as Org Wave 9’s Styrakos Agent // Enthralled Peacekeeper, Yes?, we may take inspiration from the broader history of Transformers collaborations while removing or transforming the identifying crossover elements so that the resulting character stands on its own within Transformers.

Is transformerstcg.org currently producing printed cards?

Yes. Printed-card production is active and operating at its full planned capacity.

Our current manufacturing arrangements support professionally printed cards for the Donation Storefront, events, giveaways, and online-play rewards.

Tariffs, customs requirements, shipping costs, and other supply-chain changes remain potential risks. We continue to evaluate domestic and international production options.

Free downloadable card files remain available regardless of printed inventory.

Does transformerstcg.org ship domestically and internationally?

Yes. The Donation Storefront ships to supported destinations using two fulfillment locations:

California, United States
British Columbia, Canada

Each location maintains separate inventory, so some products may be available in one region but not another.

Shipping charges depend on the destination, package, and fulfillment location. Free United States shipping is not currently available.

Tools and Website Support

Does transformerstcg.org have a deck builder?

A new Transformers TCG deck builder called db is currently in development.

It is intended to provide current card data, format support, detailed release information, and modern deck-construction tools.

The deck builder will be available at db.tftcg.org. Players will be invited to test it when its Public Beta begins.

Ordinary deck building will not require a legal name, physical address, telephone number, workplace, school, or comparable real-world identifying information.
