Transformers TCG Releases

The Transformers Trading Card Game launched in 2018 and received five official numbered Waves from Wizards of the Coast before official development ended in 2020.

The transformerstcg.org-supported continuation extends that history through Wave 6: World|Strike, Org Wave 7: Monster Menagerie, Wave 8: Waste|Lands, the current Org Wave 9: War|Void Public Beta, and the announced Org Wave 10: Wild|Fury.

About the Release Lineage

Waves 1 through 5 were official releases published by Wizards of the Coast during the commercial life of the Transformers TCG.

After official development ended, independent design teams continued creating cards for the game. Team Bayformers created World|Strike and Waste|Lands, while Turbo Revving Old Punks, or TROP, created Phase One and the original Monster Menagerie.

transformerstcg.org is the direct organizational successor to Team Bayformers. Our supported numbered lineage continues those releases through the remastered Org Wave 7: Monster Menagerie, Org Wave 9: War|Void, and future transformerstcg.org Waves.

The Org Wave designation identifies numbered Waves published directly by transformerstcg.org. Earlier community Waves retain their established names and numbering unless they are later remastered or remade by transformerstcg.org, at which point they will be republished as Org Waves. Monster Menagerie, for example, was originally adopted as Wave 7 under Allied Crossplay before transformerstcg.org’s 2024 remaster republished it as Org Wave 7.

Official Era (2018–2020)

Wave 1

Wave 1 is where the Transformers Trading Card Game roared to life. Released in September 2018, it established the core systems that still define the game today: transforming character cards, Actions and Upgrades, and battles modified by colored battle icons.

Optimus Prime, Megatron, the Dinobots, Insecticons, and many other familiar characters established the game’s identity from its first release. The Autobot Starter Set, Metroplex Deck, and later Energon Edition expanded that foundation.

Wave 2: Rise of the Combiners

Wave 2: Rise of the Combiners took everything Wave 1 established and went bigger. Released in March 2019, it introduced combiner teams, allowing groups such as the Aerialbots, Stunticons, Predacons, Dinobots, and others to unite into towering characters including Superion, Menasor, Predaking, and Volcanicus.

New Enigma cards triggered combinations, while the Devastator Deck and Bumblebee VS Megatron Starter Set added additional ways to enter the game.

Wave 3: War for Cybertron Siege I

Wave 3: War for Cybertron Siege I brought the Transformers TCG to Cybertron and pushed its character system in major new directions. Inspired by the War for Cybertron: Siege toyline, the set introduced Micromasters, Battle Masters, and the ⬛️ battle icon, which added Pierce to attacks.

Battle Masters transform from characters into Upgrade cards after being KO’d. Wave 3 also marked a major visual step forward through its extensive use of original artwork.

Blaster VS Soundwave

Blaster VS Soundwave brought one of Transformers’ classic rivalries to the TCG in a standalone ready-to-play set built around Blaster, Soundwave, and their Mini-Cassette teams.

Two complete decks let the rival leaders deploy, recover, and support their cassette characters through mechanics built around their respective teams.

Wave 4: War for Cybertron Siege II

Wave 4: War for Cybertron Siege II expanded the systems introduced in the first Siege set while adding a major new allegiance to the game: Mercenaries, characters operating outside the traditional Autobot and Decepticon factions.

Micromasters, Battle Masters, and Weaponizers continued to receive support, while the Titan Trypticon joined the game alongside Brunt, Full-Tilt, and Wipe-Out.

Wave 5: Titan Masters Attack

Wave 5: Titan Masters Attack became the final official Wave of the Transformers TCG and introduced two of the official game’s most significant late-era systems.

Titan Masters separated characters into bodies and interchangeable Head characters, while Stratagems introduced a new card type that could modify specific characters during deck construction. The Wave also brought Fortress Maximus to the game as its final official Titan.

Post-Cancellation Era (2020–)

Wave 6: World|Strike

Wave 6: World|Strike established the numbered community continuation of the Transformers TCG. Created, financed, and originally published by Team Bayformers, the Wave introduced the Quintesson faction, substantially expanded Mercenary support, and brought a new set of tools aimed at redefining what the Melee trait could do.

transformerstcg.org is Team Bayformers’ direct organizational successor and maintains and publishes the authoritative transformerstcg.org version of World|Strike.

Org Wave 7: Monster Menagerie

Org Wave 7: Monster Menagerie combines and remasters two 2021 releases originally created by Turbo Revving Old Punks, or TROP: Phase One and Monster Menagerie.

The combined Wave is filled with Halloween flavor and includes a major collection of new tools for the Constructicons, permanently raising the possibilities available to the team.

transformerstcg.org developed the remastered edition with support and historical guidance from former TROP members.

Current version: 1.1.1. A new 1.2 version is being developed; stay tuned.

Wave 8: Waste|Lands

Wave 8: Waste|Lands marked a major expansion of community-era Transformers TCG design. Created by Team Bayformers, it introduced the Junkion faction alongside two new game systems: Rolling Actions, permanent Actions that can be activated after taking time to spin up, and Stations, abilities available to characters willing to take a seat.

Waste|Lands remains the largest single Transformers TCG Wave released to date. transformerstcg.org maintains and publishes its authoritative community version.

Current version: 1.0. An official Org remaster is being developed; stay tuned.

Org Wave 9: War|Void

Org Wave 9: War|Void is the current main transformerstcg.org release and is available in Public Beta. The Wave expands Unicron from earlier appearances into a fully featured faction with its own mechanical identity.

At the center of War|Void is the optional Void system. Most characters can cause the Void to expand, adding chaos counters that Unicron’s ominous Heralds can later spend through powerful Channel abilities. Powerful Chaosbringer characters can both expand the Void and Channel its power.

War|Void is paired with Marvelous Heroes VS Rising Villains, the first transformerstcg.org Versus Set designed to introduce two players to the themes and mechanics of its accompanying Wave.

Org Wave 10: Wild|Fury

Org Wave 10: Wild|Fury is the next numbered transformerstcg.org Wave and is currently in early development.

The release will introduce the Maximal and Predacon factions to the community game, bringing Beast Wars characters, themes, and strategies into the continuing Transformers TCG release line.

Supplemental Community Card Releases

Goodies Starter Decks

Goodies are annual starter products designed to give new and returning players accessible entry points into the current Transformers TCG.

Existing releases include the 2024 deck featuring Optimus Prime, the 2025 deck featuring Bumblebee, and the 2026 deck featuring Grimlock.

Jumpstarter Update Booster

The Jumpstarter Update Booster collects replacement cards and other targeted updates that were historically distributed across multiple Waves into a single, accessible supplemental release.

Jumpstarter gives players one place to obtain current versions of cards that have received community-era updates.

Promos

transformerstcg.org offers various physical promos though events, promotions, and special releases.

Many promos are Electrums. Electrums are collectible physical promo variants using transformerstcg.org-exclusive full-art and expanded-art templates. They preserve the gameplay of their original cards while giving them a distinctive, exclusive presentation.

Electrums also appear through other, non-promo products including tftcg.org X Collaborations.

tftcg.org X Collaborations

Cards released through tftcg.org X Collaborations are physical exclusives and are not offered as digital downloads.

TFcon Packs are physical-card-exclusive promotional releases created through transformerstcg.org’s partnership with TFcon. Each TFcon Pack debuts at a TFcon convention and is distributed primarily through giveaways to attendees. Additional packs are also offered for donations at the show, with surplus inventory made available afterward through the Donation Storefront.

tftcg.org X Nonnef Productions Collaborations are injection molded accessories for Transformers figures crafted by Nonnef Productions that are inspired by classic and community TCG cards. These quality accessories are paired with Electrum versions of these cards for a combined gameplay and figure play experience.

Community Accessories

Limited Playmats

Limited Playmats are small-run physical releases created to commemorate transformerstcg.org events, tournament seasons, and pre-season series. Each design reflects a particular moment in the continuing Transformers TCG and features artwork from community contributors.

Produced in limited quantities, these playmats are not reprinted once their original run is exhausted.

Commemorative Wave Dice

Commemorative Wave Dice are limited-release premium physical accessories created to celebrate upcoming transformerstcg.org Waves, with designs tailored to the themes, factions, and visual identity of each release.

The first set, the OW9 Unicron Dice, commemorates Org Wave 9: War|Void with twelve premium orange-and-bronze dice bearing the Unicron faction sigil.

Certified Community Release Program

Main article: Certified Community Release Program

The Certified Community Release program marks community releases that meet published standards for public development, competitively independent design, broad balance, responsible artwork, Wave 4+ balance, and long-term stewardship. The forthcoming Org Wave 9 Versus Set, Marvelous Heroes VS Rising Villains, is planned to be the first release certified under it.

Legality and Current Versions

Different formats may support different cards, and some cards have received replacement versions or other legality changes. See the Ban List and current card guidance before bringing a deck into organized play.

For Team Bayformers releases such as World|Strike and Waste|Lands, use the versions published by transformerstcg.org for transformerstcg.org formats and events.
