Launched on August 16, 2022, Tournament Season Two was the second organized online season under the auspices of entities then newly affiliated with Allied Crossplay, built to support Wave 8: Waste|Lands as a community wave. It followed World|Strike Tournament Season One and ran in the community Discord.

Waste|Lands had released roughly a month earlier, around July 22, the largest Transformers TCG release to that point, official or community. The format was not unknown by then: before Season One closed, Team Bayformers had built the Harmony modifier for its Harmony: Waste|Lands tournaments, which tested the Public Beta inside the meta of the first Omega Invitational.

A rules change announced a year ahead

The season’s defining format decision was published on July 28, 2021, twelve days after Waste|Lands entered Public Beta and more than a year before the first event. Peace Through Tyranny and Security Checkpoint were out, replaced by two new Rolling Actions: Lie in Wait and Take the Shot.

The announcement left the term open deliberately. The replacements might prove seasonal, or might become permanent if the community took to them. Team Bayformers also offered both cards to any other group that wanted them as replacements for the same pair.

Encounter 1

The season opened with Encounter 1 on August 16, 2022, registration closing at 11:59 am Pacific that morning. Sixteen players entered.

Encounter 1 also started the season’s shop and its shanix currency. Every player who saw the event through from beginning to end received at least 150 shanix, and strong finishers could spend them on freshly printed physical Waste|Lands cards and on exclusive prizes, among them the Season Two playmat.

Once Round 1 put every deck on the public record, organizers published a diversity report: three Abominus decks, and every other deck in the field a unique archetype. Seven of the sixteen drew primarily on Hasbro-era cards, the rest favoring teams introduced from Wave 6 onward. That spread continued the precedent set at the 2022 Omega Invitational.

Garrus-9 lapses

The season inherited Garrus-9, the rotating suspension under which a card turning up too often in competitive events was pulled from play for one to three events. It carried through early Season Two and then fell out of use.

It released its longest-serving resident on the way out: Autobot Pipes // Idiosyncratic Collector came off across July 2022 to January 2023 and is legal today. Two others went the other way. Decepticon Quake // Ground Assault and Horri-Bull // Ground Trooper have appeared on every event ban list since Season Two Encounter 1.

Seventeen of those event lists survive in all. The last of them is Season Two Encounter 4, dated June 30, 2023.

A season that changed hands

Season Two did not so much finish as pass to someone else. After Encounter 4 it went quiet for months. Its final event, Encounter 6, was announced in March 2024 by organizers from the transformers.cards team, by then a separate group, who dropped the wave name and called the season simply “Season 2.”

Two nerfs came with that announcement. Player reaction recorded at the time ran from mixed to negative, the main objection being that the changes were drawn from the results of a single beta event.
